Jonathan Anderson’s Center Stage

In a historic moment for the House of Dior, Jonathan Anderson unveiled his first collection as Creative Director for Dior Men’s Summer 2026. Appointed to lead the men’s line in 2025 and subsequently named Creative Director for Women’s, Men’s, and Haute Couture in June 2025, Anderson becomes the first person since Christian Dior himself, seventy years ago, to oversee all fashion categories for the Maison.

Leading up to the show, Dior teased the collection with subtle hints. Two images of book totes surfaced, while the official invitation—a ceramic plate holding three eggs—nodded to Monsieur Dior’s reputed favorite meal. Another teaser featured a classic preppy look: a blue-and-white dress shirt paired with a striped tie, worn by football star and Dior ambassador Kylian Mbappé. This was juxtaposed with Andy Warhol’s portrait of American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, and further Warhol imagery of socialite Lee Radziwill. Anderson explained, “As I began exploring my vision for the House, I kept returning to these photographs of Radziwill and Basquiat who are both, for me, the epitome of style. Warhol manages to capture that natural instinct in pictures that are almost impossible to date, conveying a quality that’s as contemporary and relevant now as it was then. Sometimes you’re just born modern.” Rather than rejecting Dior’s history, Anderson seeks to “decode the language of the House in order to recode it,” focusing on “style, which is a way of being, of putting things together, of behaving and appearing.”

The pre-show film transported viewers to Versailles, featuring actor Sam Nivola amid the flora and fauna outside and the art, architecture, and decor inside—elements that would later echo in the collection. The runway show itself took place in a gallery-sized room at Les Invalides, with the Cathedral of Saint-Louis-des-Invalides as the backdrop for celebrity arrivals. Guests sat on wood squares in a neutral space adorned only with a small still-life painting of flowers in a vase.

On the runway, Anderson played with proportions, blending sporty and dandy aesthetics. Shorts and jackets appeared in both long and short lengths. The opening look paired a blazer with long, balloon-like cargo shorts that resembled a ball gown. A tweed jacket ballooned around the hips with a lightly cinched waist, nodding to the iconic women’s Bar jacket. Fisherman sandals with striped athletic crew socks completed the look, suggesting a playful, unpretentious attitude. Other shorts ensembles referenced American sportswear, emphasized by sneakers. Full-length trousers and jeans were also shown; Anderson took his bow to a standing ovation wearing jeans and a plaid button-down.

Influenced by the Versailles decor, scarf-like long fringes and capes (or coats worn as capes) completed outfits, with some longer coats sparkling. Ascot-like ties with bows in front finished many looks, and a flowered vest made an appearance.

Handbags: Reimagined Icons and New Utilitarian Styles

While the focus was largely on clothing, the accessories offered a fresh take on Dior’s heritage. Messenger-bag styles dominated, worn across the front, back, or shoulder. These featured a prominent CD buckle design and appeared in neutral-toned fabrics, including the Dior Oblique pattern, as well as a bright yellow.

The iconic Dior Book Tote, first introduced by Maria Grazia Chiuri in Spring/Summer 2018, was reimagined through Anderson’s lens. Teased ahead of the show on Instagram, his version embraces the original Dior logo, replacing the capitalized branding of the Chiuri era across both accessories and clothing. Adding a playful twist, the Book Tote now references literary classics with designs including Dracula, Dangerous Liaisons, and Dior by Dior.

Other utilitarian styles included a top-handle tote with a long strap and a duffle bag. Both are crafted from chocolate brown suede, with the duffle featuring signature cannage stitch detailing.

Backpacks were also present: a sports-luxe nylon version with an almost wood-effect finish in dark green, complemented by matching leather trim, and a Dior Oblique backpack in brown with contrasting black leather accents.

And for something entirely different, the newest look—carried by A$AP Rocky as he entered the venue with Rihanna—was a handheld bag decorated with tassel fringe, reminiscent of Versailles draperies. The bag appeared on the runway in several shades, including cornflower blue, ecru, and red. It features the iconic Dior charms, similar to those on the Lady Dior bag, in a mix of gold-tone and tone-on-tone finishes, adding a subtle touch of detail.
